Open Up, which is running until May 13, allows local artists to open their studios and show their work to the public.

The 2012 festival – which is now in its 14th year – has seen over 150 artists displaying their creations at 63 venues.

Most city centre galleries, such as Yorkshire ArtSpace and Bloc Studios, are taking part, while some artists are even opening up their homes as part of the event.

Hear Brian Holland, chair of the Open Up board, discuss the festival here:

As well as painters and sculptors, Open Up features work from craftspeople such as jewellers, silversmiths and book binders.

Brian Holland, chair of the Open Up festival board and artist, said: “Artists around the city, whether they [have] a big broad spectrum of work – clay, textiles, furniture making, etcetera – are all welcome to participate.”

“The city has a wealth of artists – apparently there are more artists per square mile in Sheffield than there are in any other city outside London.”
